How this habit consistency calculator works
Consistency is completed days divided by eligible days. Planned rest is removed from the denominator. If you track 30 days, complete 18, and mark 6 as planned rest, your consistency is 18 out of 24 eligible days: 75%.
Current run counts consecutive completed days backward from today. Planned rest lets the run wait; an open day ends it. Longest run is the best sequence inside the selected window using the same rule.
Why call it consistency as well as a streak?
A streak answers one narrow question: “How many consecutive times?” Consistency keeps the rest of the record visible. A 26-out-of-30 month is still a strong month even if the four open days were not adjacent.
How to track a habit without punishing rest
- Decide what “done” means. Make the finish line observable: ten minutes walked, one page read, or one glass of water finished.
- Mark planned rest separately. Use it for days the habit was never scheduled, not as a way to rewrite an unplanned miss.
- Review both numbers. A run shows momentum; consistency shows the whole window.
- Adjust the system when it keeps failing. Shrink the action, change the time, or reduce the weekly frequency.
Streaks versus completion rate
| Measure | Useful for | Blind spot |
|---|---|---|
| Current run | Immediate momentum | Can hide months of earlier work after one gap |
| Longest run | A personal best to celebrate | May describe the past more than the present |
| Consistency | The overall pattern across a period | Does not show whether completions clustered together |
| Planned rest | Separating schedule from avoidance | Only stays meaningful when marked honestly |
Common questions
Do planned rest days break a habit streak?
Not in this calculator. Planned rest pauses the run and is excluded from consistency. An open day breaks the run and remains part of the consistency calculation.
What is a good habit consistency percentage?
There is no universal target. The useful comparison is with the schedule and purpose of your own habit. If a habit matters three days per week, three honest completions can be 100% consistency for that plan.
Does my data leave the browser?
No. The tool uses local browser storage so the marks can still be here when you return on the same device. It has no account, analytics request, or server-side save.
